Quark Tilter

Just a quick post to share my 3D printable camera tilter I designed to be used with my Daystar Instruments QUARK Hydrogen Alpha “Eyepiece”. Please note this is not for correcting an existing tilt issue. This is for deliberately creating a tilt to avoid Newton ringing which may or may not happen depending on your setup. It happens with my ZWO ASI 174MM if I just put it on the Quark directly. I’m not an expert but I think the amount of tilt doesn’t have to be very precise. What I do is to look at a live video feed on my laptop screen while adjusting the tilter until the rings just about disappeared. Then lock it in place. Good enough for me.

Here’s a photo of it in action:

Apart from the 3D printed bits I added M3 v-coil thread inserts on the bottom bit for durability. The locking thumb screws I got from ebay.

Here’s what the three printed parts look like separately. The blue part screws onto the Quark. The orange part slides on top of it (notice the slightly curved mating surfaces) to create the tilt and locks in place with the thumb screws. The orange part has M42 thread on it so I could have just put my camera directly in it. The grey part is just a M42 to Quark thread adapter so I could attach the Quark’s 1.25″ adapter on it as well if required.

You can download the STL files here.
