BullsEye DIY Focuser Upgrade

Last Updated on 15th November 2023 by nightowl

I decided to improve the design of the NEMA17 version of the BullsEye Focuser due to some skipped steps I was experiencing sometimes with the old direct drive design. The new design uses a GT2 timing belt and pulleys to increase the torque of the system. On top of the belt and pulleys the only other thing I had to change was the bracket that mounts the focuser on the scope.

The pinion is a 16T 5mm bore GT2 and the pulley is a 60T 6mm bore GT2. The belt is 200mm (100T) GT2.

Here’s a video demonstrating the focuser in action:

Update: Got lucky and had some clear skies tonight as well so I was able to give this a proper test. All seems to be working very well 🙂

Update: The files for the new bracket have been added to the git repository.
